With the inaugural tomorrow and all the media coverage, I'm just wondering what people think about the adoption of internet tools by the Obama crowd? It seems to me if the effort to continue the involvement of 13 million names in the Obama data base stands up it'll be a game-changer for activism on the internet and the concept of democracy.
Involvement with government 'til now has been vote every 4 years and then go away while the power-brokers ran things. That might change.

The Obama transition has started a wiki for the public to participate in discussion--and ranting and raving--about priorities. It's called

After taking the little lizard picture in my
earlier post I realized there was a kind of irony in that. The page on which the lizard is posed is page 105 of Thomas Friedman's
Hot, Flat and Crowded. That's the first page of chapter five about climate chan…

My wife, Marilynn, doesn't like creepy, crawly things. That's why I can relate to the fall-down-funny scene from
Annie Hall in which Diane Keaton screams when she finds a spider in the bathtub and sends Woody Allen in to do battle with it. Woody grabs a tennis racket because it's a "really BIG!" spider. I've done my share of that.
Sunday morning my wife and her daughter went down to the pool to get some premium Hawaiian sun. I figured, swell…

All the Hawaiian islands seem to have a couple of similar features. In the middle there is a volcano or two, the fount from which the island was born. Then there is one road that circumnavigates the island right at it's edge with spectacular views of the ocean from 360 degrees. So it's my custom when visiting a new island to jump in the rental car and take a drive around its circumference. Muui fits that pattern.
Friday my wife and I headed north from Kaanapali where we're staying in one of the…

Change (Dot Gov) Is Here
President-elect Obama's transition website launches.
Thursday, November 06, 2008
By David Talbot
Early this afternoon--barely 38 hours after Barack Obama clinched the presidency--his transition team gained a new Web footing by launching www.change.gov. The site seems to be getting massive numbers of hits, judging by the slowness of the response. The homepage includes a presidential blog and links to explanations of Obama's policy initiatives, alp…

The Obama campaign harnessed to talent and enthusiasm of many internet techies to put together an internet infrastructure and strategies to win. Here's a video interview by Technology Review with one of the head technologists with scoop about how Obama's get-out-the-vote worked and what might happen in the future.
I think it might be possible that nonprofits will benefit from this burst of tech development for their own operations in the near future.

Here's an

This is a list of the main strategies:
Buying space within Xbox games
• Renting entire satellite TV channels
• Building iPhone apps
• Sending (and receiving) text messages
• Reaching out to supporters on Facebook
• Streaming video of campaign events
• Broadcasting the candidate's whereabout…

The other day I posted about Millenials and their aversion to traditional institutions, like many nonprofits. That should give any organization pause. Now I find that Dr. Susan Raymond, the Senior Managing Director of
Changing Our World and contributor to onPhilanthropy is saying that a
paradigm shift in philanthropy is in the works. Here's a few of he…
