Idealist.org has a new blog!
From the Gulf of Mexico to Tierra del Fuego, Latin America is a vibrant region full of rich cultures, breathtaking terrains and fascinating dialects. Though this region has had its fair share of political turbulence, strong values of survival and community dominate. And above all, hope.
From a radio show broadcast out of a mental hospital in
Argentina to a massage service run by the sight-impaired in
Guatemala to an organization that connects surfing and sustainable development in
Peru, there are an endless array of people making Latin America a better place. Not even Gripe A can stop these changemakers.
The
La Vida Idealist blog will showcase their stories and experiences, specifically focusing on global citizens who have chosen to make Latin America their home for a short or indefinite period of time. You will hear from a variety of people who are in different stages in their lives and careers but who all have one thing in common: they want to put their skills and passion to good use. Whether they just graduated college or are in retirement, all of the bloggers are living the idealist life.
The entries you will read will cover a range of topics. But the one trait these posts will share is honesty. By including an array of voices that speak to the positive and not-so-positive aspects of community work abroad, we hope to inspire you, to support you, but most importantly, to help you feel like you are not alone in your journey. Please don’t feel shy – we’d love for you to comment and ask away.
Thanks for coming along for the ride! If you have something you’d like us to share or want to become a contributor, please don’t hesitate to
